We get new characters in every new update of the Genshin Impact. And it's not easy to level up these all characters. We need to farm ascension material to level up or ascend the characters.

Sand grease pupa can be used as ascension material for alhaitham alongside other resources such as Pseudo-Stamens, Rich Red Brocade, and Nagadus Emerald in Genshin Impact.
What is a sand grease pupa?
Sand Grease Pupa is a local specialty of the Genshin Impact. As per game description; You can only find such husks deep in the desert where the Quicksand Eels breed. The hardened shell is meant to protect the Quicksand Eels’ larval bodies until they finally acclimate to the conditions of the dry desert.
Sand Grease Pupa in Genshin Impact is an ascension material used to level up Alhaitham. You’ll need 168 Sand Grease Pupa to fully ascend the alhaitham and they take two days to respawn, so keep that in mind when you’re looking to farm them.
Right now sand grease pupa can be used to ascend only alhaitham but maybe in future we'll get new characters (spoiler: Dehya) which will require sand grease pupa in future.
Where can you find sand grease pupa?
Looking for Genshin Impact Sand Grease Pupa locations? The Sand Grease Pupa can only be found in the Hadramaveth Desert, Sumeru. The Sand Grease Pupa locations are found in the Wenut Tunnels, but you can find some above the surface of the desert too.
In Genshin Impact right now we can farm 74 sand grease pupa. 29 sand grease pupa can be found on the surface of the desert of Hadramaveth and the rest 45 sand grease pupa can be found in the Wenut Tunnels.
Alhaitha’s tremendous power requires a fair amount of resources to ascend, and the rarest of all is the Sand Grease Pupa. These can be found in only a few locations across Sumeru.
How to farm sand grease pupa?

To make your search as easy as possible, follow the Sand Grease Pupa farming route below. When you visit each location, you will receive a total of 74 Sand Grease Pupa.
Step-1 Teleport to the Waypoint north of the Passage of Ghouls and go down to the bottom of the cliff. Here you'll find two Sand Grease Pupa.
Step-2 From the Teleport Waypoint north of the Passage of Ghouls, make your way down to the cave entrance where two Pyro Whopper Flowers are located. Head inside and follow the path and you'll find four Sand Grease Pupas.
Step-3 Walk further and head left to the side of the Setekh Wenut boss arena where you'll get 4 sand grease pupas.
Step-4 Continue circling the perimeter of the Setekh Wenut's boss arena until you get to three Sand Grease Pupas. They will be by the second path from the left
Step-5 You can use the Teleport Waypoint right below the Setekh Wenut boss icon. Head inside the cave and follow the path to collect up to six Sand Grease Pupa!
Step-6 From the Setekh Wenut boss arena, take the corridor beside Sand Grease Pupas (step-4) and follow the path, where you will encounter Fungi enemies. Sand Grease Pupas will line the walls along with various ores. Here you'll get 6 pupas.
Step-7 Keep following the path, and you will encounter 2 Sand Grease Pups just before entering a cavern with a Stonehide Lawachurl inside.
Step-8 Just inside the cavern with the Stonehide Lawachurl in the center are three Sand Grease Pupas that you can collect.
Step-9 Directly to the side of the hole revealed by a small stone pile, a Sand Grease Pupa is located beside a locked Dendro monument and a puzzle.
Step-10 Walk the perimeter of the cavern until you come across three Sand Grease Pupas near a pathway blocked by vines!
Step-11 Four more Sand Grease Pupas can be found near the sides of this cavern.
Step-12 One Sand Grease Pupa is located on the other side of the pathway blocked by vines, behind some bushes.
Step-13 Teleport to the Waypoint north of the Sands of Al-Azif and glide down to once again enter the Wenut Tunnels. You can follow the path until you come across the last four Sand Grease Pupas.
Step-14 You can find five Sand Grease Pupa north of the Temples Forsaken, near the edges of the cliff.
Step-15 Teleport northeast of the Wadi Al-Majuj area, and head up to the cliffside where you can find 4 Sand Grease Pupas.
Step-16 Four more Sand Grease Pupas can be found further north-east of the Wadi Al-Majuj area, near a higher cliff.
Step-17 Teleport to the Wounded Shin Valley, left of Mt. Damavand and south of the Sands of Three Canals to find 5 Sand Grease Pupas.
Step-18 Teleport to the Waypoint located southwest of the Sands of Three Canals, where five Sand Grease Pupas are located by the roadside.
Step-19 Go to the Teleport Waypoint north of the Tanit Camps and follow the road until you can get 6 Sand Grease Pupas. There will be an Eremite camp nearby.
If you'll follow all of these steps mentioned above you'll get these all 74 Sand Grease Pupa. These sand grease pupa will respawn again in 48 hours so make sure you farm a lot of sand grease pupa because you'll need them as ascension material for new characters in future.
